Longer Than it Takes to Say Goodbye
‘Longer than it takes to say Goodbye’ is a minimalist musical. Two lovers, Jenny and Richard, tell the story of their affair.
The narrative is provided through songs and also a blank verse commentary. Words are the first communication between the lovers, they transmute into feelings and then as the affair becomes more difficult they provide a retreat and an escape. But in the end there are as many questions as answers.
The dilemma faced by Jenny and Richard may be familiar. But the answer is always personal.

The piece started as poems which were then set to music but the narrative has developed around them and the circumstances and characters are fully drawn.

The show ran in London in June 2005, initially at The Drill Hall, then for one week at the King’s Head Theatre, Islington.
